William Fletcher part of NASA program

William Herbert Fletcher, 94, passed away peacefully in Seattle on April 12. Mr. Fletcher was born in Spokane on March 25, 1914. Mr. Fletcher was an Eagle Scout and loved the outdoors.

Jim Landerdahl jumped in his blue 2004 Chevy Trailblazer last week and during a four-day period, slowly drove about 30 miles zig-zagging through Magnolia streets looking for flags perched on porch pillars.

Center School, located in Seattle Center, graduated 57 students. Seattle Repertory Theatre is also located on the grounds of Seattle Center. The alternative high school focuses on the arts such as film and video. Students there often participate in KeyArena events and some international events such as the recent visit from the Dalai Lama.

Cubmaster, Lee Eggebroten of the Queen Anne Cub Scouts is joined by Andrew Kamemoto, Adam Paganelli, Henry Burreson, Asa Campbell and Jack Wiley to throw out the first pitch at last Friday's Mariners' game. The boys were chosen for their exceptional attendance, uniform care, achievement, behavior, attitude, desire and commitment.

Somehow eating my young doesn't sound so bad

Although I do not condone mothers eating their young in the wild, now that I have teenagers, I fully understand the impetus.

Snow, and untied laces entwined with divinity

It was 1996 and the dead of winter, which in Minneapolis is far more than a metaphor. We sat facing each other in my office at the church. I was 38, in my first year as a pastor. He was just a couple years older, with long hair and a well-deserved national reputation as an outstanding artist. His artwork had moved him into a lucrative income bracket and a mansion in an exclusive suburb. He didn't go to church, nor did he necessarily believe in God. And so the question kept rolling through my mind, "Why is he in my office?"

Light at the end of the crime tunnel

As far back as Aristotle, pundits have been linking crime to poverty. For the record, the old Greek philosopher said poverty was the school for crime. Yet during the Great Depression, in the 1930s, some violent crime rates actually went down. Theorists claimed the surprising decrease might have been due to the folks feeling they were all in a sinking boat together.
