'Freedom' musical theater to celebrate Juneteenth

On Juneteenth Brownbox theater will debut "Freedom," a one-act musical theater performance created by two of Seattle's premier African-American theater companies in the Seattle City Hall, 600 Fourth Ave., lobby, noon-1 p.m. June 19.

Parks Levy committee to take public testimony on proposals

On Tuesday, June 17 at 5:30 p.m. in the Lopez Room at Seattle Center, 305 Harrison St., the city council's Parks and Green Spaces Levy Citizens' Advisory Committee will take public testimony on preliminary proposals being considered by the committee for a potential fall 2008 levy ballot.

Underdogs the Stewart Lumber Eagles within talon grasp of Minors Division title

Rainier District Little League crowned its post-season champion in the Majors Division when Mondo Meats edged HDR Engineering 1-0 in playoff action June 7 at Rainier Playfield. Meanwhile, in the Minors Division, the Stewart Lumber Eagles continued their shocking run for the title with victories over the regular-season's first, second and third place teams, Prestige Custom Builders, Rosso Nursery, and Soreano Plumbing.

PSKS homeless forum defines the problem

Capitol Hill's Peace for the Streets by Kids from the Streets (PSKS), formed in 1995 to give homeless youth a voice in the community, has established itself as part of the social fabric of Capitol Hill; in fact, part of the group's mission is to take part in the larger Capitol Hill Community. To that end, PSKS held a homeless summit last week, using its voice to present details about the issues homeless youth and young adults face living on the street.

Ross defends his artistic vision

To say that the public art proposed for the upcoming Broadway light-rail station touched a nerve would be something of an understatement. To be set among the station supports above the platform, New York-based artist Mike Ross' pair of deconstructed fighter jets received virtually unanimous disapproval when he presented the idea during a Sound Transit forum in April.

Gordon Wedman, a great sense of humor
