SHA renovation project aims to increase safety in Lake City area This project is long overdue, according to some. riginally constructed some 40 years ago, Lake City House has become a haven for unlawful activity over the years. By next year, residents and neighbors will see some very visible changes to the aging, 115-unit, low-income housing complex. Seattle Housing Authority (SHA) will make some major renovations to the building at 12546 33rd Ave. N.E., including the relocation of existing parking lots and structural improvements. With funds made available through tax-credit financing programs, SHA began the project in early September and plans to finish it come next spring.

Workers remove debris from Meadowbrook Pond on Tuesday, Dec. 4, after a weekend that brought about 3 inches of snow (inset, at Wallingford Playfield) and then torrential rain that caused nearby Thornton Creek to overflow its banks and flood the surrounding neighborhood. The flooding forced Nathan Hale High School to close until next Monday, Dec. 10, and at least seven flooded homes were tagged with emergency notices of limited entry due to severe damage. The Seattle Fire Department delivered these notices by boat.
I saw a woman get hit while in a crosswalk at Aurora Avenue North and North 95th Street a month or so ago, while I was riding the No. 358 bus up to Shoreline. The guy who hit her was late getting through a yellow light and hit her on the red. I don't know what happened to the woman, but I do know people getting basically executed inside crosswalks isn't over and done with in Seattle.
Spirit of Christmas holiday lost with the religion of retail Ho, ho, ho...my butt.It's not that I don't want to be in the Christmas spirit - quite the opposite. I like Christmas, peace on earth, a time of festiveness and all that. It's just all the...stuff. Have a staring contest with the biggest eye in the animal kingdom: the giant squid I have driven past The Burke Museum numerous times, always mistaking it for just another University of Washington building.But after my eye kept catching that of a giant squid in numerous advertisements along University Way Northeast, I decided to finally see what was inside.
