It is, after all, summer, the season that demands Big Action Flicks, built to tickle the testosterone of lads and their dads.

TRAVEL: You can go home again

Our first trip to Italy was to Rome in 1991. My wife's maternal family emigrated from Italy in 1800, settling in Cleveland, Ohio. They came from Gildone, a small town in the south central Italian province of Molise. The village is so small it is often left off maps. No one in the family had ever gone back.

What you can do to reduce global warming

The city of Seattle's Neighborhood Matching Fund has designated a specific source of funding to support local residents in making their local climate protection dream a reality - and to have fun and build community while doing it.Since cars and trucks are the single biggest contributor to climate disruption in Seattle, creative strategies that encourage going car-free or make driving more efficient and cleaner are winning climate-protection actions. And on a related front, there are many innovative money-saving, life-enhancing and climate-protecting ways to save energy - electricity and natural gas.

Krista over the White House

Magnolia resident Krista Ellis is the coxswain for the University of California-Berkeley women's varsity 8 crew team. The team won the NCAA championships last year and were flown to Washington, D.C., recently to receive an award from President George W. Bush. Ellis (in the brown-and-white dress) is pictured on the righthand side of the attached president. She rowed for Holy Names Academy and Green Lake Crew in her high school years, received a scholarship from Berkeley and will be a junior next year. But there are those whose fondest memories of her date from her years working at Magnolia's late, lamented Caffè Appassionato.

Cool green

The warm afternoon sun, ice-cold beer, barbequed ribs, chicken and hot links accompanied by corn on the cob or cole slaw, the click of putters on the practice green and the strains of Seattle jazz drifting across the golf course can mean only one thing: Jazz on the Green is on again at the Interbay Golf Course.

CORRECTIONS

❚ Due to reporting and editing errors, Korte Brueckmann's story "Markets Bring European Culture to Seattle Neighborhoods" in last week's issue contained several mistakes.Jon Hegeman's Farmers Market Association (www.fremontmarket.com) operates the farmers' markets in Ballard, Madrona and Wallingford and the Fremont Sunday Market.
