FREMONT - Due to the lack of availability of necessary materials, last week's planned Fremont Bridge closures were shortened. Yet more bridge closures are planned so that Seattle Department of Transportation crews can continue upgrading the bridge's electrical and mechanical systems.
All motor vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists are prohibited from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night through Friday, June 29; marine traffic is not affected. These nightly closures are an alternative to closing the bridge for an entire weekend, which has been avoided so far.
During these times, a shuttle service will run from 8:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. each night between North 34th Street and Fremont Avenue North on the north end of the bridge and West Nickerson Street and Fourth Avenue North on the south end. Signs will note where the shuttle will pick up and drop off passengers every 20 to 30 minutes.
Metro Transit will revert Routes 26, 28, 31 and 74 to the routes used prior the full reopening of the bridge.
Also, starting this week and continuing through September, bicyclists traveling northbound on the bridge will need to use a temporary ramp north of the existing ramp to reach the bike lane on the Fremont Avenue.
The north half of the bridge will stay closed for marine traffic through September (except for three openings per day), with only the south half of the bridge opening. This will allow crews to work on the electrical and mechanical systems.
