World record gets all wet

On Saturday, Aug. 17, participants attempted to set a world record for the largest water-balloon fight at Seattle Center, hosted by Party Camp, a one-day adult summer camp.

Even though the 4,000 participants didn’t set the record, they did raise more than $55,000 for Camp Korey, a year-round camp for kids with serious medical conditions.

The University of Kentucky holds the current world record: In 2011, it held a water-balloon fight with 8,957 participants.

Before the water-balloon fight started, the BFA rap trio, music, food trucks and a beer garden entertained participants. People danced and threw Frisbees while waiting for the fight to start.

Many participants came dressed in costumes, including tutus and chest paint. Some came wearing pool floaties and goggles, in anticipation of the onslaught of water.

There were 300,000 water balloons inside plastic kids swimming pools.

The fight lasted about five minutes, with participants throwing the balloons in all directions in a short, chaotic fight.

After the balloon fight was over, participants took the plastic kiddy pools and slid down the International Fountain.

Party Camp teamed up with the Boys & Girls Club of King County last January to set the world record for the largest snowball fight in Seattle Center. The 5,834 participants gathered to set the record and raised $50,000.
