I volunteer at Lawton Park where I encounter numerous off leash dogs. When I said "leash please" to one man while his out of control dog sniffed me, he said "do you know who I am?". Dennis Wilken sounds equally arrogant and clueless. He and his well off, educated friends could set an example for other dog owners instead of flouting and trivializing dog leash laws. Every dog owner I encounter believes their dog is special.
Dogs on leash are a signal from owners that they respect their community enough to control their pets at all times. I see dogs off leash accost people and on leash dogs. Every time I go to Lawton Park there is dog poop on the lawn and in the natural area.
When children from the school came to plant trees in the park, we cleared the dog poop we saw, warned them to wear gloves and discouraged rolling down the hills we had not patroled for poop.
Perhaps printing Dennis' article will stir the pot and sell papers. But I for one am grateful for leash laws and the people who obey them.[[In-content Ad]]
