Two longtime members of Boy Scout Troop 72 will be honored at a special Eagle Scout ceremony on Thursday, June 2, at Bethany Presbyterian Church. To earn scouting's highest award, Daniel Gannon and Dylan Johnson each had to earn 21 merit badges, serve as a leader in the troop and complete a major community service project.
Gannon's project helped the Friends of Northeast Queen Anne Parks program by improving a section of trail and restoring the native vegetation, with expert guidance from Charles Weems.
Johnson undertook rebuilding a flight of stairs in Lower Kinnear Park - something that could not have been achieved without generous donations from Black Stock Lumber and Home Builders Center.
Both young men have belonged to Troop 72 for six years. Johnson, son of Dr. Martin Johnson and Jo Powers, is a senior at Seattle Academy. Gannon, son of John and Nina Gannon, is a senior at Nathan Hale. Both start college in September.
