Two teachers from northern China will call Seattle home for the coming school year. Ingraham High School in the North End will host Suitang Zhang, an English teacher with 16 years experience, and Hamilton International Middle School in Walling-ford will host Chunmei Cao, also an English teacher from Yulin City. Both will be leaving their families in China to experience American culture firsthand, to improve their English skills and to bring Chinese culture and language to students here.
As Visiting Teachers with AFS Intercultural Programs, they will observe classes, work in classrooms and add their cultural perspectives to social studies, art, music, language and afterschool activities. Zhang will also assist with afterschool Mandarin classes made available at Ingraham through OneWorldNow.
Cao is the mother of a 3-year-old son and enjoys badminton, exercise and music. She hopes her host family will have young children.
AFS is looking for volunteer host families, three for each teacher optimally, to share hosting for the year. Teachers will arrive in Seattle in mid-August after a short orientation in New York and stay until mid-June. Families with children and empty-nesters are encouraged to apply.
For hosting application or information, contact Pat Griffith, AFS Teacher Coordinator, 682-4068 or 285-2452.[[In-content Ad]]
