And what a fine memory it is. Another great Stroll thanks to the many and diverse Artists; to Ann Pearce and her Ambassadors extraordinaire; to Jurors Sarah Arney, Judith Campion and Cheryl Johnson; to Uptown Stroll Chair Jane Horowitz and her fellow organizers, to emcee Jean Sundborg, to our many generous sponsors (see list at right) and to all of you who came to enjoy the fun.
Congratulations to the winners of Uptown Stroll 2007:
• Brom Wikstrom - First Place Ribbon plus one night's stay at the Mediterranean Inn plus gift certificate from Queen Anne Office Supply;
• Elizabeth Sheets - Second Place Ribbon plus one night's stay at the Mediterranean Inn;
• Sue Christensen - Third Place Ribbon plus gift certificate from Queen Anne Office Supply.
Brom Wikstrom works in watercolor, Elizabeth Sheets in collage and watercolor, and Sue Christensen is a photographer.
The "Plein Aire" category obliged artists to plant themselves in Counterbalance Park or along Queen Anne Avenue the morning of the Stroll and, starting with a blank canvas, re-create the scene they saw before them. Recognized as winners - all happen to work in oil - were:
• Daniel Lowery, who painted the scene north on Queen Anne Avenue from Roy and Queen Anne;
• Kelly Lyles, who painted the scene south and across the street from her perch on the west side of the park;
• Robert Blehert, who stationed himself at Mercer and Queen Anne, looking north, and painted the MarQueen Hotel with planter boxes on the sidewalk.
Stunning paintings, all - Lowery received a gift certificate to Mother Nature's, and Lyles and Blehert were presented with gift certificates to Caffè Ladro.
Honorable Mentions were awarded to: Ellen Kess-berger, watercolor; Dakota, mixed media; Michael Kaufman, brush painting; Linda Martin, watercolor; Troy Nickels, pen and ink; Robby Pease, photography; and Kamilla White, acrylics.
Works by the abovementioned artists as well as works by other participants in Saturday's Stroll will be on display at the Bank of America, 100 W. Mercer St., during the months of September and October.
And on Tuesday, Sept. 18, Bank of America in conjunction with Uptown Stroll Committee will again host a Meet the Artists night from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Artists will be introduced and juice and cookies will be served.
And ... another date to put on your calendar is Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, for the next Uptown Stroll. See you then.
