The two dudes in the photograph...

...have more in common than you might think.

Asked which is the former Seattle SuperSonic, you would not be rash in guessing Jim McIlvaine (at right). The other is local dentist Dr. Steven Albright, a Queen Anne resident with offices on Eastlake and on Fairview.

Both were recently honored by their alma mater, Marquette University in Milwaukee. McIlvaine received the Young Alumnus Award from the J. William and Mary Diederich College of Communication, and Albright got the Outstanding Dental Service Award from the School of Dentistry.

The linkages continue. Both went to the same high school, albeit 20 years apart, and had been previously honored by St. Catherine's (in Racine, Wisc.) as members of the school's Hall of Fame. McIlvaine was inducted into the Hall of Fame for basketball in 1996; Albright for "Recognition of Outstanding Accomplishments and Excellence in Medicine" in 1999.

Albright will also be remembered as a duly designated community hero who carried the Olympic torch in 1996, and as the 1999 honoree as Washington State Dental Association Citizen of the Year.

But can he dunk?[[In-content Ad]]
