During the first week of May, Level 4 (also known as 10th grade) art students at the International Community School (ICS) were taught the fine art of Renaissance dancing by Anna Mansbridge, director of Seattle Early Dance, thanks to a wonderful grant from the Kirkland Youth Council's Mini-Grant program.
Ms. Mansbridge came to ICS to teach a variety of dances, such as the Pavan, the Branles, the Alman and the Farandole, as well as variations on them, and even provided period costumes.
At ICS, the art curriculum is integrated with the curriculum for international studies and humanities, and, in the 10th grade, they spend the year on the arts, literature, history, and culture of the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque eras in Western civilization.
The week ended with a festival for which the students brought in Medieval foods, games, and music. Lucky 7th grade classes joined the group and participated in the dancing which was led by the 10th graders.[[In-content Ad]]
