Teen musical: 'Beauty and the Beast'

The weekend of July 29-31, the Kirkland Performance Center will be busy with Studio East production of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast," the eighth annual Studio East summer teen musical. The production will feature a cast of more than 50 Eastside teens, accompanied by an orchestra of Eastside teens (and a few adults).

In May, more than 130 teens auditioned for this popular eastside tradition. The summer teen musical gives teens the chance to work on a major work of the American musical theater and then perform on a large stage in a professional theater.

Past productions have included "Oklahoma," "Guys & Dolls," "Brigadoon," "The Music Man," "Once Upon a Mattress," "Les Miserables" and "Kiss Me, Kate."

For teens who enjoy theater, it's a great way to spend the summer - working on a show, learning more about acting and the theater, making new friends and having fun.

For Eastside residents, the project also allows them to see a full production of a big theatrical musical at a fraction of the cost of a professional production.

Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" will be at Kirkland Performance Center July 29-31, with evening performances at 7 p.m. and weekend matinees at 2 p.m. All tickets are $13, plus $1 KPC box office fee. For tickets and information call the KPC box office at 893-9900. This production is recommended for ages 5 and up, no infants please.[[In-content Ad]]
