Street Talk-'Do you agree with President Bush's proposal to privatize Social Security?

AMY ZIMMERMAN
"I am suspect of every single thing that he does. The market is so unpredictable, and elderly people really rely on that income. In my mind it will definitely only benefit the rich and Wall Street."

PATRICK GONZALES
"No. Take Enron, for example - history repeats itself. Privatizing Social Security is a joke - it is a scam, in my opinion. There is no trust anymore."

MATTHEW BARRETT
"Oh my, not at all. It is supposed to be a safety-net insurance program to help elderly people from falling into poverty. We already can invest in 401Ks and private pensions in the marketplace. I don't understand the point of risking a safety-net program in the equity markets. It is just too risky, and the risk is too great for a minor reward."

HOWARD BLUMBERG
"I am afraid that most people are not aware of how to invest their money. I think that it is just a ploy by the government to increase the wealth of the brokers and financial institutions."

.LOUISE ALEXANDER
"I am on the fence about it. We do need to do something about Social Security. Aesthetically it sounds good - people get more money in their paychecks, and they have more control over their accounts - but in reality I think it will fall short. I personally believe it detracts from the bigger problem, Medicaid. That is what we should be focusing on."[[In-content Ad]]
