Stories of the Sea surfaces Thursday

The Ninth Annual Stories of the Sea poetry and spoken word competition will be held Thursday, May 10, from 8 to 10:30 p.m. at the Highliner Tavern at Fishermen's Terminal, 3909 18th Ave. W.

Poets, singers and performers of the spoken word, whether plying the fishing trade or in some other way connected to the sea, are invited to share their original works of not more than 10 minutes' duration.

Time slots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Performers may register on site the night of the event.

A panel of four local journalists/writers will serve as judges and choose the top three performers. First prize is $300 cash; second prize, $200; and third prize, $100.

This year's master of ceremonies is poet, singer and songwriter John Van Amerongen.[[In-content Ad]]
