SPU's Fricker sets record, named Athlete of Week

Seattle Pacific University’s (SPU) McKayla Fricker set an NCAA Division II-leading time in the 800 meters at the recent Oregon Preview and was subsequently named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s track Athlete of the Week.

Falcons junior Fricker, of Canby, Ore., finished two laps around the oval at Oregon’s Historic Hayward Field in 2 minutes 9.90 seconds. At the finish line, she was more than 2 seconds in front of runner-up Megan Patrignelli of University of Oregon, who clocked 2:12.14.

The time for Fricker was nearly two seconds better than her previous personal best of 2:11.57, set last April 21 at the Beach Invitational in Norwalk, Calif.

She also ran the anchor leg on SPU’s victorious 4x400 relay team at the Oregon Preview.

This was Fricker’s first Athlete of the Week award.
