The Seattle Pacific University women's soccer team continued its winning ways on its first road trip of the season last week, going 2-0 in two non-league contests in the Monterey Bay area.
The Falcons edged Cal State Monterey Bay, 1-0 on Sept. 9, behind Amanda Johnson's goal in the 67th minute. The win gave 2007 national Coach of the Year Chuck Sekyra his 100th career college coaching victory.
Johnson netted her team-leading fourth goal after taking a pass from Meredith Teague, eluding two defenders into the box, and slipping the ball past the Otter's goalkeeper.
In the Falcons' Sept. 11 match against Notre Dame de Namur it was junior midfielder Teague who stepped up big, with two early goals in a 3-0, never-look-back victory.
Teague's first goal, a 35-yard laser from the right side that soared over the keeper and into the upper corner of the net, came on the first shot of the contest with just 2:07 run off the clock. She found the net again at 7:22 on a strike from the top of the box.
"We accomplished what we set out to do," said Sekyra of the 2-0 road trip.[[In-content Ad]]
