Seattle Pacific University on the north slope of Queen Anne Hill last week welcomed the second-highest number of students in its 116-year history. Total enrollment - undergraduate, post-baccalaureate, graduate and nonmatriculated - was 3,838.
The university also set a record for new students - 941, from high school and transfers - and another for freshmen (high school students only), at 721.
There was also a rise in the percentage of those enrolling from ethnically diverse backgrounds, up from 15 percent in 2006-07 to 19 percent for the new school year.
"Not only did we receive more applications than ever before," observed undergraduate admissions director Jobe Korb-Nice, "but students came to us with outstanding academic credentials."
Founded in 1891, SPU is a Christian university that aims to equip people "to engage the culture and change the world."[[In-content Ad]]
