SPU b-ballers go undefeated

It's a measure of the Lady Falcons' versatility that, of the team's usual 10-player rotation, seven different players were high scorers on different nights.

Seattle Pacific University's low-key 68-39 pummeling of Western Oregon on Thursday, and its 62-54 victory over a scrappy St. Martin's team on Saturday, were characteristic performances and catapulted the team to a perfect season, 27-0.

Now, onto the playoffs, where the Lady Falcons face fiercer competition. Their first task is to win the West. Then, for the winner, it's on to the Elite Eight.

The wise sports enthusiast won't miss the NCAA Women's West Regional. It's right in our backyard at SPU's Brougham Pavilion, at Third Avenue West and West Nickerson.

Four quarter-final matches are set for this Friday afternoon March 14, and evening, with two semi-final games Saturday night, March 15.

Tipoff for the West region championship is 7 p.m., Monday, March 17.

This weekend, SPU, ranked No. 2 in the nation, hosts the eight-team NCAA West regional tournament.

The team that wins its next three games at SPU's Brougham Pavilion will advance to the Elite Eight in Kearney, Neb., and have a shot at the national championship.

From the team's preseason exhibition upset win against the crosstown UW Huskies, to beating the top Division II teams in California, to sweeping through the Great Northwest Athletic Conference without a loss, there were gut-check wins. Back-to-back one-point wins on the road in Idaho and Alaska. Tough wins at home. Wins that depended on composure and clutch performance.[[In-content Ad]]
