Non-motorized racers will speed down Fremont Avenue North as they try to beat the clock in the Red Bull Soapbox Race on Saturday, Sept. 29.
In this second-ever event to take place in the United States, 46 teams will compete in the derby, plus a wildcard entry picked from on-line voting. The teams include Bob Saget, intoxicated Elvises, Lincoln Logs, 5-foot pickles, a horizontal Troll and coffins with wheels.
The winners will receive prizes ranging from a day of go-kart racing to a NASCAR trip for all team members.
The event is free to attend, but donations may be made to B.F. Day Elementary School's After-School Tutoring Program.
This event will close Fremont Avenue North to traffic. The street, from North 41st to 36th streets, will close for at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, though North 39th Street will remain open for east-west traffic.
On event day, Saturday, North 39th also will close and will reopen by 6 p.m. Saturday. Other streets will open by midnight[[In-content Ad]]
