A clerk working at the Queen Anne Smoke Shop in the 600 block of Queen Anne Ave. N. chased down and allegedly stabbed a Queen Anne man around 9 p.m. Aug. 1. The man was wounded in the lower back and did not suffer life-threatening injuries, according to police spokeswoman ReneƩ Witt.
The suspect, Mohamed Umer, told police the other man had hit him in the head with something that caused him to bleed following a disturbance in the tiny store.
A clerk working the next day in the store said the victim in the case had tried to steal a cigar, and the police report notes a wooden stool in the store was placed into evidence, along with the knife allegedly used in the attack.
The victim told police the clerk stabbed him on the sidewalk outside of a bar in the 500 block of Queen Anne Ave., that he ran into the bar and that the smoke shop clerk followed him.
They didn't stay long, according to witnesses who told police they saw the bloodied victim and the suspect holding a knife run back outside again.
The victim somehow managed to call police to report he'd been stabbed, and officers contacted the victim, the suspect a witness in the Kidd Valley parking lot, according to the police report. The suspect was arrested and booked into jail for investigation of assault.
