Hot dogs, wine, and lemonade, plus a book drive are on the bill at Queen Anne Books, Thursday, July 19, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Those attending are asked to bring a book, or books, to donate to the Seattle7Writers Pocket Libraries.
The Seattle7Writers began one Friday in 2006, when bestselling authors Jennie Shortridge (“When She Flew”) and Garth Stein (“The Art of Racing in the Rain”) met for coffee. They kept meeting every month, and more authors joined until there were seven. Now there are 10 core authors and 21 friends.
“That’s how we started — a bunch of writers who just gravitated toward each other, to provide support and camaraderie and share resources,” Shortridge said. “Then we realized we could do more for the Pacific Northwest community to keep it such a literary city. So we do our best to connect readers and writers and booksellers and librarians, and to teach other writers what we’ve learned and to raise money for literacy programs—to ensure there’ll always be readers That’s the dream.”
Queen Anne Books is at 1811 Queen Anne Ave. N.
