The school board held a meeting on April 12 to select Dr. Goodloe-Johnson, who most recently served as the superintendent to the Charleston County School District in North Carolina.
"Maria is a teacher's teacher whose own educational experience will complement the extraordinary strengths of the teachers and staff in our district," said board president Cheryl Chow.
Dr. Goodloe-Johnson began her career as a high school special education teacher in Colorado in the 1980s and has served as the a high school principal, assistant principal, superintendent and assistant superintendent in Colorado, Texas and North Carolina. "She inherited a budget deficit [as superintendent in Charleston county]," said school board director Michael DeBell, the chairman of the board's finance committee. "Maria turn[ed] that situation around... I am confident that Dr. Goodloe-Johnson will sustain and enhance those efforts [in Seattle]."[[In-content Ad]]
