Seattle Center master plan approved

Seattle Center master plan approved

The Seattle City Council Monday unanimously adopted the Seattle Center Century 21 Master Plan.
The move comes after almost 18 months of deliberations by the 17-member Century 21 Committee, an extensive public process, and several months of Parks and Seattle Center Committee consideration. The adoption means fundraising, both public and private, can begin.
The City Council adoption also means the beginning of renovating existing structures and razing others such as Memorial Stadium and the Fun Forest. The Fun Forest area will be converted into a year-round outdoor activity and play area.
The Center House will be renovated to allow more natural light and the entire area will feature improved pedestrian connections and transportation modes through the Center to nearby neighborhoods.
Private investors will fund the majority of the $567-million plan, the rest supplemented by an anticipated public-funding measure.
