SeaChordsmen director competes in Toronto

Tenor Ted C. Chamberlain, director of the Seattle SeaChordsmen Barbershop Chorus, competed as a member of his quartet 4.0 (4.0quartet.com) in the Barbershop Harmony Society International Quartet Contest in Toronto in early July. The group placed 37th out of 180 groups.

The quartet was invited to participate as a “wildcard” entry in the International Quartet Contest, where it faced competition with the best barbershop quartets from around the world.

Chamberlain’s quartet previously won a series of awards in regional competitions, including 2012 Evergreen District Novice Quartet Champions and first place in the Evergreen District International Preliminary Contest in April 2013.

The SeaChordsmen hired Chamberlain in March 2013.

Chamberlain began directing barbershop choruses in 1987. He has been a public-school choir and orchestra teacher since 1988 and is currently teaching about half-time in the Kent School District, in addition to teaching private voice lessons.

The Seattle SeaChordsmen were founded in 1949 and currently have 25 active singers. The SeaChordsmen rehearse every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Queen Anne Baptist Church (2011 First Ave. N.).
