In the interest of national security, I felt compelled to respond to Glenn Avery's column about Sarah Palin. Glenn is my neighbor and friend, and I know that he is a well-educated, sincere, dedicated political activist, as well as a compassionate community volunteer. But it absolutely horrifies me to think that intelligent voters such as Glenn can be so blind as to the ultimate damage that Sarah Palin can do to this country.
She may have excited the conservative Republican base with her "aw shucks" country-girl charm and her far, far right ideals. But underneath those naughty librarian good looks and 'maverick, let's-shake-things-up-in-Washington' speeches, she is a very dangerous woman.
As we have seen over the past couple of weeks in the three interviews in which her 'handlers' have allowed her to participate, she has demonstrated that she is an inarticulate, poorly-educated, mean-spirited political hack who has no business being governor of Alaska much less vice-president of the United States! It's a terrifying thought that she is literally 'a heart-beat away' from the presidency. When questioned, and very gently I might add, by Katie Couric, Ms. Palin had a constant deer-in-the-headlights expression. She couldn't answer simple questions put to her by Katie. "I'll get back to ya on that," she responds. And, she's got foreign policy experience because she can see Russia from her house?? Are you kidding me? How on Earth could she ever hope to participate in any kind of international relations? It boggles the mind.
I keep waiting for SOMEBODY to suddenly wake up and scream, "The Emperor has no clothes!" It seems like a nightmare that anybody could take Sarah Palin seriously as McCain's running mate. Do we really want somebody who is "just like us"? I, for one, would prefer to have somebody in the White House who is a whole lot smarter than me. That is definitely NOT Sarah Palin.
Am I the only person who's terrified and outraged by the possibility that she could go to the White House?
