WEDGWOOD
Work progresses on N.E. 75th road repairs
Seattle Department of Transportation contractor Gary Merlino Construction plans to complete work in the westbound lanes of Northeast 75th Street between 25th and 35th avenues Northeast by Labor Day.
On Tuesday, Sept. 6, the contractor will use the shortened work week to repair pavement in the eastbound lanes of Northeast 75th between 20th and 25th avenues Northeast. Work in the westbound lanes will begin the following week. Both will involve detours to Northeast 65th Street between 20th and 25th.
The last stage of concrete repair will be the intersection of 75th and 20th.
Then, starting Sept. 19, crews will prune growth from private yards on 75th that has been growing into the sidewalk area. This will allow the contractor to repair broken sidewalks along 75th between Lake City Way Northeast and 35th.
FREMONT
Bridge work, traffic changes to start soon
Mowat Construction will start staging and securing the Fremont Bridge approaches for the 25-month rebuild project after Labor Day. The work also will involve changing the traffic signals and street curbs at several intersections nearby.
One of the first projects is to add a temporary westbound bike path to North 34th Street to substitute for the soon-to-be-closed Burke-Gilman Trail. It will replace the right-hand traffic lane on 34th from Stone Way North to Phinney Avenue North. This alternate route will remain open until the Burke-Gilman Trail is restored in summer 2007.
Also, the Burke Mill Road and the Ship Canal Trail are expected to close on Sept. 12.
