Rainier District Little League: Bracers tie down Stewart Lumber and Coastal Kitchen cooks up the Steelheads

The Rainier Little League season passed its midway point with exciting games and play around the South End. This week's recap features the following games:

MAJORS DIVISION

Dr. Baker's Bracers 17, Stewart Lumber 1


Jack McDonald allowed one run in three innings and Roland Woodiest pitched two scoreless innings to lead Dr. Baker's Bracers to a 17-1 victory over Stewart Lumber on May 3, 2007, in a game played at the Rainier Beach softball field
.

Coastal Kitchen 6 , Dr. Baker's Bracers 5

Kai Wiseman doubled, tripled and scored two runs to lead Coastal Kitchen to a 6-5 win over Dr. Baker's Bracers in Majors Division action on May 1, 2007. Bradley Bloedel and Connor Jalbert added RBI hits for the Kitchen, while Bloedel also pitched three effective innings for the win. Jannaro Ealy-Peredo finished up the game with three scoreless innings for the save. Dr. Baker's Joe Renner was outstanding for the losing nine, pitching a complete game while striking out 12 and walking none. Jack McDonald had two hits, Evan Reason scored two runs, and Tyler Monroe had an RBI triple in the nail-biter.


Coastal Kitchen 14 , eattle Steelheads 3

Bradley Bloedel came up a single short of the cycle, hitting a double, two triples and a grand slam homerun to lead Coastal Kitchen to a 14-3 win over the Central District's Seattle Steelheads in Rainier Little League action on April 28, 2007. Sascha Stipe and Joe Hardy each added triples for Coastal Kitchen, while Connor Jalbert pitched four strong innings, striking out 10 Steelhead batters.


MINORS DIVISION

Nelson Trucking 5, Burdick's Security 1


Jamie Orme, Will McDonald and Matt Sadang combined for six innings of nearly flawless pitching as the Nelson Trucking Rockets dealt the Burdick's Security Black Hawks their first loss of the season, 5-1, at Rainier Field on May 6, 2007. The three Rocket pitchers threw strike after strike, and walked a total of only three Burdick's batters en route to the victory. Burdick's pitchers were equally impressive, but Nelson Trucking scraped enough runs together to upset the Black Hawks juggernaut. Ian McManus stole home and caught a fly ball in centerfield for the last out to clinch the victory for the Rockets.


Kohl Construction 13, All City Fence 5

The Kohl Construction Falcons defeated a tenacious All City Fence squad 13 to 5 on May 5th, 2007, at Rainier Field. Excellent pitching by both teams kept the game close for the first three innings, but then the bats of Kohl Construction heated up to drive in seven runs over the final two frames. Evan Brown contributed to the Falcon's winning effort with his first home run, while Tim Kramer came up with three hits and three runs of his own. Henry Knight, Reed Shrontz, Dillon Yamamoto, Evan Brown, Shadeed Abdul-Salaam, Jeremiah Hobbs and Ben Johnson had two hits apiece. Travis Logan played an alert catcher for the Green Falcons, tagging out two runners at home plate.


All City Fence 14 , Nelson Trucking 11

The All City Fence Green Falcons held off late rallies from Nelson Trucking to prevail 14 -11 in Minors Division action at Van Asselt Field on May 3, 2007. Travis Logan pitched into the third inning and clocked a long triple for All City Fence, while Chelon McLennan added a long drive of his own into the outfield and Ronny VanderVeen had two timely singles for the Green Falcons. BJ Dondoyano shut down the Rocket hitters late in the game, allowing only Morya Echols and Jackson Droegge to hit safely for Nelson Trucking.


Burdick's Security 7, Genesee Fuel 2

Burdick's Security defeated defending Minors Division champions Genesee Fuel by a score of 7-2 behind the strong pitching of Janak Preston and Nils Whisman on May 1, 2007. Josh Friedland got the Burdick's offense rolling with a scorching drive down the third base line and Jonathan Sassoon continued his hot hitting as the Black Hawks improved their record to 7-0. Gabe Rodriguez had the big bat for Genesee, collecting two RBIs on long drives to the outfield, and Tony Chiodo was outstanding in two innings of scoreless relief for the Blue Sox.


Burdick's Security 7, Windermere Realty 6

The Windermere Ravens came within three outs of pulling off the upset of the season, but Burdick's Security scored two runs in the bottom of the final inning to eke out a 7-6 win in Minors Division action on April 29, 2007. Nils Whisman homered and tripled, and Arielle Marie-Antonio stole three bases and scored two runs to help Burdick's Security avoid their first loss of the season. Peter DeFranco scored the winning run for the Black Hawks. Windermere, still searching for their first victory of the campaign, lost a heartbreaker but still showed continued improvement in all aspects of their game.


ROOKIE DIVISION

Rosso Nursery 7, McFeely Architects 2


Rosso Nursery defeated McFeely Architects 7-2 on May 5, 2007, led by the stellar pitching of Geno Rosso, Arius (Big Boi) Willis, and Deshawn Connoir. Trevor Taylor pitched well for McFeely.


Rosso Nursery 12, Pittsburgh Keystones 1

Arius Willis pitched one-hit ball and Alex Gregory came up with a key defensive play at first base to lead the Rosso Nursery Dragons to a 12-1 victory over the Central District's Pittsburgh Keystones in Rookie Division action on April 30, 2007.


Advanced Irrigation 5, Chicago American Giants 3

James Duncan knocked in two runs with a bases loaded single and O'landa Baker followed up with a two-run triple as Advanced Irrigation came from behind in the final inning to post a 5-3 win over the Central District's Chicago American Giants at Lakewood Park on April 30, 2007. Anthony Hartsfield was the winning pitcher for Advanced Irrigation, striking out four Giants batters.
