QACC in action

The October meeting of the Queen Anne Community Council included presentation of Seattle City Council candidates David Della and Tim Burgess and Seattle School Board candidate Sherry Carr.

The QACC also tended to its own election of officers: treasurer, Margaret Okamoto (elected by acclamation); secretary, Jeff Parker (by acclamation); vice chairman, Kirk Robinson (elected by ballot); and chairman, Ellen Monrad (by acclamation).

Reelected to the community council without opposition were Jim Smith, Glenn Avery, Scott Baker, John Coney, Sharon Levine, Ron Mason, Kirk Robbins and Mike Warren. Two vacancies remain to be filled at the November meeting.

Land Use & Planning Committee chair Craig Hanway moved to send a letter to Nick Licata of the Seattle City Council supporting proposed changes to redevelopment plan for North Bay to accommodate light industrial tenants such as Korry Electronics, as well extension of the streetcar line to serve Interbay and infrastructure improvements serving Magnolia.

This was approved by a vote of 10 to 5.

Matt Roewe was reelected to LURC by acclamation, and there was discussion of the impact of low-rise townhome development in single-family neighborhoods.

Parks Committee chair Don Harper updated the council on the process to renew the Pro Parks levy, on Queen Anne Bowl renovation and on Bayview-Kinnear Park renovations. A motion to rename Dexter Pit Park as Tom Wales Park passed by acclamation.

For the Transportation Committee, John Coney presented a review of Seattle Department of Transportation response to QACC proposals for traffic/safety improvement proposals in five areas: West McGraw at Third Avenue West; First Avenue West and Dravus Street; Nickerson between 13th and 14th avenues; Boston and Fourth Avenue North; and Third Avenue West at West Armour.

Letters supporting pedestrian safety improvements for the Aurora Bridge, including suicide prevention barriers and barriers for the center medians, passed by acclamation.[[In-content Ad]]
