The Queen Anne Helpline board of directors has hired Lisa Moore, a 15-year resident of Queen Anne and the founder/director of a nonprofit educational organization on Queen Anne, to be Helpline’s new executive director.
Moore received a doctorate degree in education and a master’s degree in school psychology from the University of Oregon. She received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and special education, graduating cum laude, from the University of Utah.
At Microsoft, where she worked for eight years, Moore helped manage a team that designed and created software for children, including the award-winning “My Personal Tutor.” In addition, she was a user-education manager of a team that created on-line help systems for Microsoft Office products.
In 2001, Moore founded and served as executive director of the nonprofit organization Successful Schools in Action (SSIA), which served K-12 students in seven public schools in Queen Anne and Magnolia. SSIA worked in partnership with the schools providing academic and enrichment programs, teacher workshops and learning events for families.
The Helpline organization has worked for 30 years to improve the lives of families and individuals in need on Queen Anne. This help takes the form of short-term financial support for rent, utilities, education, medicine and transportation, as well as adult education, tutoring in Queen Anne schools and other programs.
The organization also works to educate Queen Anne residents about the needs of its disadvantaged neighbors.
