Police Notes - May

Leschi

* Unneighborly neighbor:
Police arrived at a 29th Avenue South home around 2:20 a.m. April 20 to find a man and a woman outside visibly upset.

Apparently, they were inside their home when a neighbor began pounding on their door and then broke it down to enter the home.

The female resident tried to block the neighbor from entering, but she was thrown to the floor.

The neighbor left, but returned a few minutes later, shattering two windows next to the door before leaving again.

The residents say they don't know this neighbor and don't know why she went to their home and caused the damage. They both noted that the neighbor appeared to be extremely intoxicated.

Police tried to contact the neighbor at her home, but no one answered. They advised the victims to call 911 should the neighbor return.

Madison Valley

* Car prowlers:
A woman reported seeing two to three men breaking into vehicles in the 100 block of 29th Avenue around 3:40 a.m. April 19.

Police arrived but couldn't locate the suspects. The woman later told police at least two suspects had driven off northbound.

Police found one vehicle that showed no signs of forced entry, but its interior had been rummaged through, the steering-column cover was torn off and the ignition was damaged.

No usable fingerprints were found, so the police started to leave the area, heading westbound on East Denny Way.

In the 2600 block, they found four men in a vehicle, all of which matched the descriptions the caller provided.

The police contacted them and found screwdrivers on the floorboard at the rear passenger's feet. All four occupants were taken out of the car and checked for weapons.

The driver told police one of the passengers had told him to stop the car because he wanted to steal a vehicle. He complied and watched as the passenger tried unsuccessfully to steal the car.

Another passenger was considered to be the other suspect seen prowling the car as he had cut his hand and had grease or dirt on his hands.

The caller wouldn't identify the suspects in person, but she did describe their car and their clothing over the phone.

During a search of the suspects' vehicle, police found screwdrivers, a crow bar, three flashlights and a shaved key. All were submitted into evidence.

But all four suspects were questioned and released, even though one suspect had a record for stealing a vehicle.

* Mail theft: A man in the 400 block of 31st Avenue East reported his mail stolen around 5:20 p.m. April 23.

The man said he had checked his mailbox earlier that day, but left the junk mail in it to retrieve later.

At 4:30 p.m. he found paper scattered all over the planting strip and discovered that it was his mail. He then discovered that his mailbox was open and his mail gone.

However, upon closer inspection, he noticed that none of the mail on the ground was his, but his neighbors'. The man picked up his neighbors' mail and returned it to them.

Madrona

* Property damage:
Police responded to a Madrona business around 7:05 a.m. April 11 to investigate a report of property damage. There, officers found four concrete planters with their contents partially dumped out.

The store owner said the damage was caused after 10 p.m. the night before, and she suspects a neighborhood teen who has been causing problems the last two months.

According to the store owner, the teen has been entering the store cursing and shoplifting lately. The same teen was kicked out the store the night before.

The store owner is requesting the teen be trespassed from the store and provided an address for the suspect.

Police tried to contact the teen at his home, but growling dogs blocked the path to the residence.
