Girl trouble

Police were patrolling the 500 block of Denny Way at 12:40 a.m. on Sept. 1 because it is known for its heavy amount of prostitution and criminal activity. The girls said they were 15 years old, and had been staying at a friend's house in Queen Anne but were going to take a bus to Federal Way. One of the girls gave a date of birth that made her only 13. A computer check showed the girls had no records.

Police were concerned the girls might be runaways, so they asked for their parents' phone numbers. Neither girl supplied a working number.

At this point an 18-year-old female showed up, and began to yell at the girls. She told police that she was friends with them, and that they were staying with her in Queen Anne. Their other friend was driving around in a car looking for them. Another 18-year-old woman then pulled up in a car. One of the underage girls said she was her mother, and jumped in the car.
