Police Blotter 8/26

Living high on the hog

Officers arrested a 56-year-old at the Metropolitan Market the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 18, after he was seen pocketing items without paying.

When police arrived at the scene, the suspect was struggling with employees and had to be handcuffed. He had lifted a book of matches, some crab spread, two packages of baby back ribs and a $55 bottle of Cabernet.

A records check showed that he was wanted on a felony no-bail escape warrant by the Department of Corrections. He was booked into King County Jail for the warrant and for investigation of theft.

Bad pad

Sharp pharmacists were suspicious of the frequency at which a customer was refilling an anti-anxiety medication. In discussions with the alleged prescribing physician, the druggists at an area store determined that the prescription pad had been stolen from a clinic. A call to 911 brought officers to the store on First Avenue North, where they arrested the suspect and booked him into King County Jail for investigation of forgery.

Keeping things private

At about 4 p.m., Monday, Aug. 17, officers responded to a parking lot in the 600 block of First Ave. N. after a woman noticed that the man in the car next to hers had his pants and underwear down around his ankles.

Officers also discovered a paper bag covering the suspect's penis. A records check showed no prior history of suspicious behavior, but the man later told officers that he has done this before, due to "life stresses."

He was released but trespassed from the parking lot and the business it's associated with.

Lost and unsound

At around 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 18, police were called to assist a disoriented elderly woman who was wandering in the 2600 block of 29th Ave. W.

Luckily, one of the officers had helped her before and knew that she lived about 10 blocks away. The woman said she was 38 (she's actually 70) and admitted that her memory was not what it used to be.

Medics and officers did a welfare check of the home and found rotting meat on the floor - which had led to a housefly and maggot infestation - mail and garbage piled on the bed and an overflowing toilet. Officers had the woman taken to Harborview and alerted the landlord to the situation.

Picky picky

Early Monday, Aug. 17, someone broke into an office in the 3200 block of 16th Ave. W., unplugged cords from several different computers, but stole only one.

Rollin' rollin' rollin'

Around 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 19, at Kinnear Park, a man claimed he was hit in the back of the head as he walked his dog.

The assailants then shoved him down the side of a cliff and he rolled all the way to the bottom of the hill. Afraid he would be followed, he grabbed his dog and ran to a nearby gas station on Elliott Avenue.

He had minor scrapes and scratches and was dizzy. Medics couldn't find any injury to his head. After a glass of juice at the station, he said he felt better and that he and his dog would take a cab home to south Seattle.

Dude!

Around 9 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, at Elliott and West Prospect, a vendor at Hempfest complained that two teenagers had tried to steal shirts he was selling.

The officer's report states that the vendor was uncooperative and wouldn't answer questions.

He pointed out two teens as the culprits but, when questioned, the pair said they had no idea what the man was talking about and didn't know anything about his shirts.

Selective enforcement

Around 7:30 Monday, Aug. 17, in the 3800 block of 35th Ave. W., a woman complained about a violation of a court order. It seems that she lets the suspect live at her residence even though he is supposed to stay away. (Well, she lets him live there until they have an argument; then she calls 911 to report the violation.)

Death threats

Around 8 p.m., Monday, Aug. 17, at a residence on First Ave. N., a woman reported receiving multiple telephone calls - including death threats - from a man she knows. The suspect also said he has been watching her residence.

Officers found the suspect at his home and arrested him for investigation of domestic violence harassment.

Burglaries/break-ins/car prowls by block: Second Ave. W. and W. John, W. Comstock, 1300 First Ave. W., 2200 W. Commodore Way, 2000 34th Ave. W., 1000 W. Armour.
