Lost and found
At 5 p.m. on Aug. 2, an employee of the Safeway on First Avenue West called 911 to report that the store was playing host to a lost child. Officers tried unsuccessfully to get information from the 3-year-old, and even allowed him to "lead them" to his house. When he became confused after a block or so, everyone decided it would be better to return to the store. As they did, two relieved women were coming out of the business. The child had disappeared after he was supposed to walk down an apartment hall from one door to another. Each woman thought the boy was with the other. When they realized he was gone, they went immediately to the store, which is a place the boy is familiar with. A computer check showed no previous incidents of neglect or concern with the boy, and he was returned to the women's care. The two were, however, advised to have some sort of identification on the boy and to provide nearby merchants with contact information in case he decides to wander off again.
Battered
A woman came into the West Precinct to report that her boyfriend assaulted her twice in late July in their home in the 300 block of W. Olympic Place. On July 22 he grabbed her by the jaw, shoved her head against a wall and dragged her across the room by her ankles. A week later, when she confronted him about the first assault, he shoved her backward onto a couch, sat on top of her and began to smother her with a cushion. The victim reports that she struck the boyfriend to get him to climb off, but he then grabbed her by the neck and one ankle and slammed her to the ground. Officers have been provided with alleged photographic evidence of the assault.
That's no yolk
Around 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 2, a woman parked her Saab convertible - top down - in the 3200 block of McGraw Ave. W. When she returned to the car three hours later, she discovered that someone had egged the dashboard. (The radio no longer works.) And overnight between Aug. 1
and 2, a car parked in the
3400 block of Magnolia Blvd. W. suffered the same fate - but to its exterior. The owner was able to wash off the residue.
Dollars
A resident of the 3600 block of 14th Ave. W. reports that someone obtained his credit card account number by fraudulent means and charged $329.50. The victim reports that on Aug. 2 he accidentally left his ATM card in the machine at a bank on Queen Anne Avenue North. In short order, it appears that someone retrieved the card and made purchases worth $110.
On July 23, someone stole a checkbook from a purse that was accidentally left at a business on 32nd West.
Rip-off
Overnight between Aug. 1 and 2, someone ripped a fencepost from a home in the 2800 block of 12th Ave. W. Around 1:30 that morning, a nearby resident had noticed a group of young men walking down the street with a number of items, including a carpet roll and a fencepost. It's thought that the group might be associated with tenants of a rental home in the area.
He kicks, he scores
Early on Aug. 6, following a soccer game, roommates returned home to the 2500 block of Third Ave. W. to find the front door open, lights ablaze and the kitchen door kicked in. A bicycle and a number of personal belongings were missing.
Half gassed
In late July, a resident of 2500 10th Ave. W. discovered that someone had stolen a half-full gas container from his boat, which was parked in the carport.
Pantsless in Seattle
Early on Aug. 5, an officer decided to chat up a man in the 1600 block of Aurora Ave. N. after noticing that his jeans were down around his ankles and his shoes were in the middle of the southbound lanes. The man said he was on his way to find someplace to sleep.
