Police Blotter 5/20

Mischief a' brewin'

Tuesday afternoon at 3, a white male stole some biscotti and a tea mug from a store in the 2100 block of Queen Anne Ave. N.

Two hours later, the same man entered the Starbucks in the same block and stole a bottle of orange juice and a package of chocolates. Employees recognized him as the same man who had stolen a CD the previous week.

And overnight Saturday, someone broke the drive-thru window of a latte stand in the 3200 block of 15th Ave. W., stole money from the till, and tried (but failed) to steal a safe.

On the same night, someone shattered the front window of a business in the 4200 block of Gilman Ave. W., stole $150 from the till, and rifled through some file cabinets. Other businesses in the strip mall were undisturbed.

Unhappy discovery

In Discovery Park last Wednesday morning, someone stole the wallet of a Metro bus driver from a backpack tucked behind the driver's seat.

Fast worker

On Tuesday morning, while she was shopping in Queen Anne, a woman's wallet fell out of her purse. Whoever found it made fast tracks to two Fred Meyer stores and charged more than $600 worth of merchandise at each of them. The thief also tried to use the card at a Ballard 7-11, but the charge (of $80) was declined.

Candid camera

An odd bit of road rage last Wednesday morning around 9:45. At Fourth Ave. N. and Queen Anne Drive, a driver in his 20s cut off another driver and then passed her.

At the next stop sign, he got out of his car and gave her the finger before driving off. But when the victim arrived at her destination, the driver suddenly appeared in his car, took her picture, and drove away.

Rage and roll

Thursday night a Queen Anne man was arrested following a road rage altercation downtown: A fellow driver had swerved into the suspect's lane to avoid hitting a pedestrian.

This apparently enraged the suspect who followed the victim and damaged his car by pounding on it. When the victim got out of his car to evaluate the damage, the suspect knocked him to the ground and drove off. As officers checked the home of the suspect vehicle's registered owner, they saw the suspect drive by.

After a brief chase, he finally pulled over at 15th and Northwest 58th streets. He denied the incident but refused to make a statement. The 39-year-old was booked into King County Jail for investigation of non-aggravated assault, property damage and causing a disturbance.

And Thursday evening, a driver who took up four parking spaces at the Elliott Bay Marina returned to his truck and didn't appreciate that he'd been given a ticket. He accosted the woman who had written the citation, yelling obscenities.

He ran to within inches of her, with fists clenched, screaming, "Who the eff do you think you are?"

The employee ran toward the harbormaster's office, crying and screaming, with the man racing after her in his truck (which is registered to a business on 15th Ave. W.)

He drove off with his female companion while police were being called.

Howdy-doo

A car prowler was startled into a profanity when the car's owner happened to return to the vehicle and clicked her remote to open the doors.

Walking up from several car lengths away, the owner, too, was surprised to see the suspect slam her car door, open his, and drive off in a silver Honda.

Her stereo and a rear speaker were missing, with a loss of approximately $1,000.

Dollars and sense

An 85-year-old is a sharp cookie and keeps hanging up on the callers who say she has won a $1.8 million sweepstakes. Officers have told her that the phone company can help her block the determined fraudsters.

Someone gained access to a Queen Anne man's Bank of America account and made four transactions adding up to $2,000.

A Queen Anne woman received a letter from account reps regarding her Discovery Card. There's only one problem: She's never had a Discovery Card. Someone opened a fraudulent account using her maiden name and other personal data.

Tall tales

A longtime acquaintance with a shady past has shown up unannounced at a Queen Anne woman's home three times in the past month.

On May 8, he left a voice mail, calling her "ugly" and a drug user, and threatening to tell her friends and employer of such activities. (The woman states that his accusations are false). She has been advised to get court order against the man.

In the 2100 block of 4th W, one family was hit by car prowls overnight on both Wednesday and Thursday.

Missing in action

Sometime Friday, someone stole a package from the box of a home in the 2100 block of 8th Ave. N.

Sometime during the past two weeks, someone broke into a boat moored in the 2100 block of Westlake Ave. N. and stole a computer, electronic items, and bedding. There was no apparent damage done to the boat or its remaining contents.

A resident in the 1500 block of 11th W. was unable to find her purse. It was last seen on a table in the home's entryway on Friday morning, and she is concerned that someone walked in and took it.

She has been advised to cancel all credit cards and notify her bank.

Long-time gone

A man called 911 to report a "possible" car theft. His son-the car's owner--says that he parked the vehicle somewhere in Queen Anne. But no one has been able to find it. (It's only a "possible" car theft because the son has mental issues and is currently undergoing a psychiatric evaluation).
