Patricia Boyd

PATRICIA (EVELYN) STRANGE BOYD
April 14, 1924-March 23, 2011

Patricia (Evelyn) Strange Boyd was born in Hardin County, Sour Lake, TX, on April 14, 1924 of Ernest Earl Strange and Evelyn Patricia Lawrence.
Patricia was the wife of Syndicated Columnist L. M. Boyd, "Mike Mailway" (deceased).  She died quietly in her home on March 23, 2011.  Patricia lived in Seattle the last 28 years.  She was lovingly known in the community as a leader.  She was a Master Bridge player, hosting many events; former President of the Magnolia Garden Club, belonged to many organizations including the Business Women’s Association, always in leadership positions.

As L.M. Boyd’s wife, they jointly founded Crown Syndicate - syndicating several columns, including her “Seek and Find” puzzle found in many papers around the country.  Her husband lovingly referred to her as his “Love and War Man” for his “L. M. Boyd” syndicated column.  They worked side by side out of their home for over 45 years.
As a Mother, Patricia was a skilled seamstress making all of her children beautiful clothes as they were growing up.  She did all the fine needlework taught by her grandmother and aunts; she was a virtual chef in the kitchen and her favorite times were hosting large family or friend gatherings with beautiful floral decorations and delicious and unique recipes.  As she was fond of saying, she liked to “make pretty.”

Patricia was the mother of eight children.  She was preceded in death by her husband, L.M. Boyd, who died in January 2007.  She also outlived two daughters, Linda Susan Kiley, and Patricia Anne Kiley of Crystal Lake, IL; and a great grandson, David Allen Christianson of Seattle, WA.

She is survived by her six children:  Clare Kiley (Fred) Hasler of Winter Park, FL; James L. (Caryl) Kiley, Jr. of Las Vegas, NV; Marty (Steve) Christianson of Seattle, WA; Mary Anne Boyd; of Fort Worth, TX; Theresa Lawrence (Bill) Jones of Parker, CO; and Frances (Mark) Robertson of Fort Worth, TX.

Patricia had eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and 11 great-grand children.
She is also survived by one brother, Ernest E. (Carlene) Strange, of Kerrville, TX.

Patricia had a favorite saying when her family had to depart as they returned for extra hugs and kisses she would say, “There are never enough goodbyes”.

At Patricia’s request there will be no memorial service. Many thanks to our devoted
Caregivers, Ruci and Harriet, for all the love and special care they gave our mother
over the past three years. Patricia will be placed permanently to rest with her husband, Louis Malcolm Boyd, at Acacia Memorial Park in Lake City. Family and friends can leave messages at www.howden-kennedy.com, here and www.seattletimes.com.
