Passing of the baton in Olympia

Retiring state Rep. Helen Sommers (D-Magnolia) shared a moment with her successor, Rep.-elect Reuven Carlyle (D-Queen Anne), on the floor of the House of Representatives in Olympia during the recent committee assembly days.

Sommers is retiring after a 36-year career in the House. Carlyle, who was elected Nov. 4, will be sworn in as the new 36th District representative on Jan. 12, 2009, the opening day of the legislative session.

"I am so deeply honored and humbled to succeed Rep. Sommers, who has represented our district with personal dignity and accomplished so much during her amazing career," Carlyle said.[[In-content Ad]]
