Last Thursday the Magnolia Merchants Group, a sort of retail committee made up of Magnolia Chamber of Commerce members, held their first Girls Night Out event and to much fanfare.
Each of the 11 retailers in the Magnolia Village participating in the event brought out a special display geared toward women. At LeRoux clothing store, co-owner Alex Smith invited the Joseph Ribkoff design representative to show the new line before it becomes publicly available. At Jill DeGreen's Bleu Papillon, there was new Potluck Paris jewelry made from recycled metal, sterling teapots and other interesting metallic combinations and designed by a co-operative of artists from France. And at Cocoa & Cream, owner Heather Lakefish gave away small hot beverages and homemade marshmallow samples.
The other stores participating were Around the Block, Dish It Up!, Magnolia Garden Center, Serendipity, Small Fry, Swirl, Vixen and Szmania's.
Debra Kahwaty, who works at Bleu Papillon was delighted with the turnout.
"We had people coming in and telling me 'we had so much fun.' People hit all the shops and we ended up at Swirl," she said. "There was a sea of people in here and I've been here two-and-a-half years and I've never seen so many people in here."
DeGreen was a catalyst for the event and for starting the merchants group.[[In-content Ad]]
