Oemig's call for President's impeachment is hard-left bipartisanship

TO THE EDITOR:
Voters in the 45th Legislative District (Kirkland, Redmond, Woodinville, portions of unincorporated King County) recently sent Eric Oemig to represent them in the Washington state Senate. Before last fall's election, he campaigned on education, health care, transportation, taxes and other routine Washington state issues. Yet now that he's in Olympia, what do we see? Instead of the promised bipartisan problem-solving, he waves the bloody shirt of presidential impeachment in about as frothing-at-the-mouth, rabid, hard-left partisanship as has been seen in Olympia in a very long time.

Oemig is a prime sponsor of Senate Joint Memorial 8016 calling for the impeachment of President Bush and Vice President Cheney in language that seems ripped from the pages of MoveOn.org or a Cindy Sheehan screed. It's demagoguery at its worst from a know-nothing who has done nothing as a publicity hound backbencher.

As the father of an army staff sergeant with one tour in Iraq under his belt (and another possible) and a Marine lance corporal who's doing everything he can to get there, Oemig's smear is personally insulting to me, my sons and their comrades in arms. Political grandstanding like this during wartime degrades the sacrifices of our military and their families and serves to embolden an already vicious and bloodthirsty enemy - an enemy about whom I have yet to hear Oemig utter a discouraging word.

For all the good SJM 8016 will do, why doesn't he simply buy the ingredients necessary for an IED and ship them to the insurgents in Iraq so they can kill some of our soldiers and Marines? Or he could take his yellow-stained effort to Camp Pendleton and run it up the flagpole to see how many Marines would care to salute.

Sen. Oemig owes 45th District voters an apology for hiding the true nature of his ultra-left wing agenda by claiming not to be a "politician" and promising to "reject the partisan bickering of Olympia." His SJM 8016 proves him to be as craven a partisan politician as the worst of them. Too bad we can't impeach him!
