Nanci Tangeman will bring her book, "40 Excuses to Get Together with the Girls," to Parkplace Books on May 5, at 2 p.m.
The book includes more than 300 activities to help women "get out of a rut" and spend more time with friends. More than 100 women - American, British, Swedish, French, Norwegian, Irish, Canadian, Australian and South African, 22 to 85 years old - have participated in workshops based on the book in the United States, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
Tangeman grew up around Seattle, living in Juanita before taking off to see the world. She's spent the past 15 years overseas, moving from country to country.
"40 Excuses to Get Together with the Girls" gives women 40 areas to explore - from music (Excuse No. 2) to everyday technology (Excuse No. 31) to spirituality (Excuse No. 21). Then, she's taken those subjects and put them into a framework that encourages women to get together.
Tangeman is "back home" in Kirkland for six months. "My mother, sister, sister-in-law, niece and I are using my book together while I'm here," she says. "So I'm really putting my money where my mouth is!"
The mini workshop at Parkplace Books is free to the public. No reservations required. For examples of the 40 excuses and more than 300 activities, and for more information about the book, visit www.nancitangeman.com.
