One Queen Anne neighbor, tired of looking at her rundown traffic circle has taken action with some seeds and good will.
Susan Savelle, who lives near West Howe Street and Sixth Avenue West was fed up with the intersection's unsightly traffic circle. She didn't like the way trucks without the steering radius would lumber over the edges of the circle, sometimes inside it. So on Earth Day, April 22, the avid gardener marched out into the rain and started digging up the weeds and muck and began planting an assortment of flowers. She planted poppies, baby's breath, thistles, daisies and bachelor buttons throughout the circle. Two months later the concrete ring has been transformed into a colorful spectacle.
"I just did something to see something pretty here," she said. "People can do nice things and not need a reward."
Savelle has lived in the neighborhood for close to 15 years and has appointed her home in a like manner, with numerous flowers and plants adorning the entryway, a Buddha garden toward the back and potted plants and flowers in the alleyway entry.[[In-content Ad]]
