John Muir Elementary's Pat Jovag has been named teacher of the week in a Western Washington contest conducted by KPLZ-FM radio.
Jovag, a third-grade teacher, was nominated as the radio station's teacher of week by her student, Eric Espinoza. He wrote, "She explains the work very well and she's very fair. She helps everyone, and she communicates well to us about what we are going to do each day, like if we are having a fire drill or a substitute and she is kind."
Radio personality Corine McKenzie made a surprise visit and delivered prizes to Jovag's classroom in Kirkland on April 13. She received a personalized plaque from Issaquah Trophies, a special gift from Mattress Depot USA, and a $100 check from STAR 101.5. Each student received a goody bag full of prizes from Mattress Depot USA, McDonald's, Museum of Flight and KPLZ-FM.
KPLZ-FM's "Teacher of the Week" is a 12-week program that allows students and parents to recognize deserving educators for their commitment to the quality education of local children.
