Miracle League concludes season

The Kirkland Boys & Girls Club and Kirkland Rotary recently teamed up to offer a baseball program called Miracle League. Offered to youth with mental and/or physical disabilities, Miracle League provided the opportunity for the participants to experience a baseball program.

Over a period of five weeks through May and June, volunteers of the Kirkland Boys & Girls Club and Kirkland Rotary gathered every Saturday at 10 a.m. to serve as "helpers" for the special youth as they played baseball at Finkbeiner Field at the Kirkland Boys & Girls Club.

Each volunteer paired up with a child to assist them in playing. This is done so the parents - who so often are participating or assisting their child - can enjoy watching their child participate in a sport.

The season concluded June 18 with a pizza party and awards celebration. The program's goal was to provide the youth with a sports experience they might not otherwise have been offered. This goal was met as each child participated with a degree of enthusiasm that was matched or surpassed by volunteers and parents.
