Megrey earns Eagle during bittersweet ceremony

Magnolia resident Nick Megrey recently attained Eagle Scout status. Members of Boy Scout Troop 80 honored his achievement at a ceremony Oct. 10 at the Magnolia Church of Christ at 3555 W. McGraw St. Attending the ceremony were all members of both the Peters family, representing Nick's mother's side of the family, and the Megrey clan; fellow Ballard High School football team members; and Troop 80 members and family.

The event was particularly poignant for Megrey as it followed the recent death of his father Bern Megrey. Megrey thanked Troop 80 scout leaders, his football coach and other male mentors for stopping in to support him after his loss. In a touching gesture, he presented his father's Eagle Scout pin to Troop 80 Scoutmaster Tom Ranken.

Ballard senior Megrey qualified for Eagle with two projects: Organizing a blood drive at Magnolia Church of Christ and leading a clean up of Magnolia Baptist Church. His favorite experiences with Troop 80 include attending Camp Parsons and taking a canoe tour of Bowron Lakes in British Columbia. He plans to continue with the troop as an assistant Scout master.

In addition to his scouting activities, Megrey is the Ballard High School Interhigh representative for the Seattle School District. He is also an offensive and defensive lineman for the Ballard football team, sings baritone for Ballard's concert choir and is trying to establish a men's a cappella choir. He plans to study archaeology in college.[[In-content Ad]]
