Two months ago, on June 28, McClure Middle School students, families and community supporters gathered at the school for the ground breaking of McClure’s School to Pool landscape improvement project on the east side of the school.
The Degenerates, a band of graduating McClure 8th graders performed, while introductions by McClure Principal Sarah Pritchett and Washington State Representative Reuven Carlyle kicked off the project.
Construction appears to be on target for completion before school starts on Sept 5, except for the plantings which will happen after the weather cools.
The final stages of the project called for the laying the bricks and mosaic tiles, then benches installed, followed by the landscaping.
A Ribbon Cutting Celebration will take place Sept 13 at 6:30pm. Community leaders and project supporters will be invited. This date also coincides with McClure’s Annual Welcome Back BBQ and new parent orientation for McClure families.
The project was made possible by a Neighborhood Matching Fund Award from the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, and the following sponsors: Bjarko-Serra Architects, Charter Construction, Emerald Bay Equity, Overly and Associates, Marla Master Graphic Design and Terra Design, and via the purchase of engraved bricks by McClure families and Queen Anne and Magnolia neighborhood businesses.
McClure, recently designated a neighborhood school under the new Seattle School District neighborhood boundary plan, is undergoing many improvements under the leadership of Principal Pritchett and with the support of McClure PTSA, families, students, and the greater Queen Anne and Magnolia communities.
