McClure book fair a page turner, while turkey bingo raises funds for those in need

McClure Middle School students were the beneficiaries of Friday's Turkey Bingo event and Sunday's book fair at Queen Anne Books the latter raising $153 worth of books to donate directly to the school from the wish table.

Purchases during the book fair also earned McClure Library $385 in donated gift certificates to use at the store.

Students were on hand, volunteering at the book store and reading original work. There were 21 readers at the annual fundraiser.

Turkey bingo was "absolutely packed," said McClure volunteer Margarita Vanegas.

Eric Mansfield, a McClure math teacher was the evening's bingo caller and was assisted by another math teacher, Kelly Quinn.

McClure families were in strong attendance as well as John Hay Elementary School and Coe Elementary School parents.

Prizes were donated by Tara Espinoza of Queen Anne Mail Dispatch and Sue Sanem of Portage Bay goods who are also McClure parents.

There were prizes donated by other McClure families. The event started at 6:30 p.m. and ended well past the 8:30 p.m. end time. There were seven families who won turkeys that evening which seemed to be the most popular prize.

This event was sponsored by the McClure Parent Teacher Student Association and benefits families in need.

The amount raised is matched by Community Learning Center Seattle Parks and Recreation.
