Mayor Greg Nickels is inviting Seattle teenagers to get involved in government by joining the 2007-2008 Mayor's Youth Council. Young people age 14 to 18 can apply now to become a member.
"I want teenagers to help us work on issues that are important to them and to Seattle," Nickels said.
The Mayor's Youth Council will have 20 members - at least one from each of 13 geographic areas of the city. Members will meet twice monthly, conduct outreach, collect input from teens all over Seattle, and organize the 7th Annual Mayor's Youth Town Hall in the spring of 2008.
To apply to become a member of the Mayor's Youth Council, please call Carrie Hathorn at Metrocenter YMCA at 587-6116. The application deadline is 5 p.m., Oct. 9.
