Margaret E. Nelson

...who devoted herself to family and those in need

Margaret E. Nelson, a resident of Queen Anne for 72 years, died peacefully on Aug. 8.

She was 95.

Born March 12, 1912, in Vancouver, B.C., to William J. and Hilda Hallett, she met and married Herbert H. Nelson when she was 18. His family lived in Seattle and so the newlyweds made that their home. Before long they had acquired a house on Halladay Street, and that would remain home for seven decades and counting.

Touching the lives of many in a kind, gentle and loving manner, Mrs. Nelson was a member of the Seattle Milk Fund for more than 50 years. In addition, she volunteered at the Queen Anne Care Center for more than 10 years, visiting and comforting those who had no family. She was also greatly invested in garden-club activities.

Mr. and Mrs. Nelson were married for 64 years until his death in December 1994.

A loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Mrs. Nelson is survived by her two daughters, Marla Shell and Janis Miller, both of California; six grandchildren - Don, of Bothell; Melinda, of Oregon; Laura, Debra, Jay and Jeff, of California - and 10 great-grandchildren: Jason, Bethanie, Matthew, Matt, Dylan, Cameron, Jillian, Bradley, Donovan and Ava.

There was a memorial service for Mrs. Nelson on Aug. 12 at the home of Lee and Phil McClusky, in the same Queen Anne block the Nelsons called home for so long. More than 35 neighbors, friends and relatives gathered for the occasion.

In memory of Margaret Nelson, the family suggests donations to the Seattle Milk Fund.[[In-content Ad]]
