Man's best friend's best friend

We enjoyed so much reading the article about Dr. Stephen Jones, Queen Anne veterinarian, in the Queen Anne News this week (Feb. 28). It was very informative and interesting, and we appreciate you doing a feature story along with photos of Dr. Jones.

After my husband and I read it, we both thought it was a great article, but felt some of Dr. Jones' personal attributes were not mentioned and we hope could be added. He is truly a unique and remarkable person. I think if you asked any of his patients' owners, you would find this to be true.

We met Dr. Jones in 1971 when he first opened his office in the little building which is presently next to Pizza Hut. We were newly married, new to Queen Anne, and had a new puppy. We immediately took him to Dr. Jones for a checkup, and I still remember that first visit 36 years ago! [Dr. Jones] was reassuring, caring and gave us so much information we needed as new dog owners. He treated our dog and us with respect and compassion, and has ever since.

Since that first visit, we've had three more dogs, two at present, and Dr. Jones talks to us and treats us the same as he did then. He hasn't changed or hardened over the years, and still is sincere both personally and professionally just as he was when he started his practice.

We've had some serious issues with our dogs, and he always communicates with us as the caring person he is. He never fails to call us to explain the results of tests the dogs have had, how we should proceed in their care, and never gives up. He explores every avenue and, as he said in the article, will refer us to a specialist if needed.

As to what an amazing person Dr. Jones is, he has a wonderful sense of humor and is always professional and courteous. He cares so much about each animal he treats, whether it be a healthy new puppy or a sick elderly dog or cat. They are all important to him. Our dogs are now 8 and 10 years old, and if we go by the clinic on a walk, they pull us to go in! Of course they want a treat, but we know they love Dr. Jones, too.

We, and surely many other residents of Queen Anne with dogs and cats, thank Dr. Jones for all his years of dedication and care for our animals both on Queen Anne and at Green Lake Animal Hospital. We sincerely hope that he won't retire "completely" any time soon!

Lee and Arnold Boelter,
Queen Anne
