The holidays are nearing and the temperatures are dropping. Here's how local Magnolians are preparing for the season.
When asked how he's dealing with the cold, four-year Magnolia resident Ernie Bracco said, "It's all right. I mean I come from New York so I'm used to it, but we were hoping it wouldn't be like New York." He went on to say, "We're a little worried about the climate change. We're thinking that maybe it's going to stay cold."
As locals Gail and Joe Sullivan sat on a bench in Magnolia Village enjoying the sunshine in the cold weather, Gail said, "We're retired. We just go with the flow; anything different is kind of nice actually and it's beautiful around here." She added: "You don't have to go off the hill. We have everything here in Magnolia."
Joe recalled the time years ago when he and Gail did their Christmas shopping at Ace Hardware because of the bad winter weather.
"Drinking more hot chocolate and bundling up" are what Irene and Melina Winters are doing in the cold. "We're also going up to the mountains tonight so we're hoping when we come home there's snow here," said Irene, adding that "now we have new cars that can drive better in the snow." Last year they relied on family and friends when the bus didn't come.
Joann Sparks said she too is "bundling up" to deal with the cold. "I want it to snow as soon as I'm done with my Christmas shopping," she added.
During the holiday season Magnolia resident Justin Hylarides is escaping the cold weather and going to Hawaii. "I love the cold and stuff. I think it's perfect when the skies are clear," he said. He'll visit and spend time with family in Hawaii.
Matt and Emma McGrath, new residents to Magnolia, said they are going to New Orleans for the holidays. After enjoying vacation time there, they'll drive to Memphis where Matt's sister lives. "We'll spend some time there," said Matt.
"I'm going to California with family," said Brittany Bakkom, Village Pub employee. "We're going to San Francisco and then driving to L.A." She's lived in Magnolia for two years now and said, "I like it. It's a little community and it reminds me of my hometown."
Magnolia resident Chris Bowles said "I'm spending the holidays with my family and hoping it doesn't snow."
Whether you're are travelling or staying home, enjoy the season and stay warm.[[In-content Ad]]
